How each number is counted

• Words — runs of non-whitespace separated by whitespace. Hyphenated compounds count as one.
• Characters — every character including spaces. The second figure excludes whitespace.
• Sentences — terminated by ., ! or ?. Abbreviations can inflate this slightly.
• Reading time — at 225 words per minute, a typical adult silent reading pace.
• Speaking time — at 130 words per minute, a comfortable presentation pace.
